Malaysiakini Bagaimana BN Khianati Pilihanraya Kecil Indera Kayangan
(How BN tilt the playing field in Indera Kayangan)
kepada satu tulisan bertajuk 'Re-alliance' could be Keadilan's saving grace' - BN
Tamat. Terjemahan: SPAR Asal: http://www.malaysiakini.com/Letter/2002/01/2002012206.php3
Malaysiakini How BN tilt the playing field in Indera Kayangan An Indera
Kayangan Observer 5:31pm, Tue: I would like to respond to the letter 'Re-alliance' could
be Keadilan's saving grace. My writing is based on my own personal experience there.
Barisan Nasional obtained more postal votes than it did in the last
election, which contributed in a small way to its so-called
'increase in majority' in Indera Kayangan. The number of postal
votes 'miracalously' increased from 250 in 1999 to 750 in 2002.
As we all know, postal votes are cast with minimum supervision and
the issue of postal votes tampering have been discussed in length
in the recent past. Who will ever know what exactly happened?
What is more peculiar is the statement made by the Election
Commission in The Sun (Jan 21) where its secretary Wan Ahmad
Wan Omar was quoted as saying that the percentage of voter
turnout was at 50 percent at 4pm but miracalously increased to
75.99 percent in a matter of one and a half hour between 4pm to
5.30pm. This is something very peculiar considering that more than 1,000
voters cast their votes in the last one and a half hour of voting.
Considering that there are only seven polling stations and one voter
need an average of five minutes to vote, is this mathematically
possible for everyone to complete the task?
I notice that in the last half hour, the voter's turnout was very light
and there could not be more than 25 voters at each polling station.
Saifuddin Nasution submitted a memorandum to the EC alleging that
BA's workers were blocked and threatened by BN workers in their
campaign efforts. The content was not denied by the EC. It was just
referred to the police by the EC. The shift in Malay votes is also expected considering BN's
heavy-handed tactics. BN was practically encamped in the
entrances of each Malay kampung (village) thus blocking BA from
entering. BA campaigners were physically harassed and ridiculed.
It was not until the last two days of campaigning that BA workers
were able to penetrate the Malay areas with police escort.
By then it was too late for BA to neutralise BN's supercharged
machinery. |
